The 25th International Kodály Symposium 2021:

 Village voices in global harmony

CALL FOR PAPER SUBMISSIONS

 

We are pleased to invite presenters from all around the world to submit papers to be presented at the 25th International Kodály Symposium, 2021 which will be held in Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland from 9th- 13th August, 2021.

 

SUBMISSION CATEGORIES 
1. Spoken Papers related to the 2021 IKS theme:

 

Village voices in global harmony

 

2. Workshops

Papers should have an emphasis on folk music, ethnomusicology, research, methodology and practice of the Kodály Philosophy across various fields relating to music education, composition or performance. The above categories can be accommodated within several interest groups including but not entirely exclusive to the following topics. Please note that the following examples are intended as a guide:

·         Folk music – collection, analysis, pedagogical uses, the contemporary face

·         The relation between contemporary music and village traditions in music

·         How does the contemporary society cultivate folk music traditions?

·         The place for village music in the national curriculum of kindergarten and different schools system

·         Village voices – is it a thing of the past orof the present time?

·         The role of the traditional music in 21st century choral education

·         Using the elements of folk music in music therapy

·         Instrumental and vocal village teachers

 

1. PAPERS
Spoken Papers will be allocated a maximum time of 30 minutes, consisting of 20 minutes pure speaking time and up to 10 minutes maximum for questions.

1A. ABSTRACT
Abstracts must be in English with a text of between 250 – 350 words in length (excluding title and author information). 
 To submit the text in ENGLISH, typed in Times New Roman (13), with 1,5 spacing, justified, Footnotes at the bottom and References at the end.

The Abstract should not include references but include the following items:

1.Theoretical / Pedagogical background of the paper
2. Aim / Focus of the work/research reported
3. Methodology /Approach of the work
4. Results and/or Summary of the main ideas
5. Conclusions and Implications.

 

1B. FULL PAPER


After sending the Abstracts, chosen Presenters will be asked to prepare Full Paper for presentation with text between 2500 – 3000 words in length
and
a bio (max 120 words) and photograph,
but only upon receiving a notification from IKS.

 

2. WORKSHOP
Sessions will have designated time-slots (normally a total of 60 minutes, consisting of no more than 45 minutes for the Workshop and 5 minutes for the discussion/questions, with 10 minutes between sessions).

A Workshop submission consists of an abstract between 300 – 400 words in length. To submit the text in ENGLISH, typed in Times New Roman (13), with 1,5 spacing, justified, Footnotes at the bottom and References at the end.

The abstract should clearly provide background information, the purpose of the workshop, content, method, and applications for music education.

After sending the Abstracts, chosen Presenters will be asked to send a bio (max 120 words) and photograph, but only upon receiving a notification from IKS.

 

MULTIPLE SUBMISSIONS POLICY 

·         No maximum number of submissions for each individual presenter, including submissions in Paper, Workshop categories.

·         Joint presentations are allowed. 

·         No individual will be permitted to present in more than a total of TWO Papers or Workshop sessions.

·         IKS 2021 Organizers reserves the right to further limit the number of presentations accepted for any one individual.

PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT THE SAME PROPOSAL FOR A COMMISSION AND THE SYMPOSIUM.

COPYRIGHT (Full Paper Presenters only) 
Presenters must indicate agreement with the following copyright conditions:

Copyright Agreement: 
I hereby assign to the International Kodály Society, copyright of the Full Paper I will be presenting for use by the Society in all formats and through any medium of communication.

·         I understand that I will retain copyright of the original submission for purposes of duplicating the article, placing it on my personal and institutional websites, etc., but will give IKS the first and exclusive rights to publish the IKS-formatted and edited version in print or online in IKS.

·         I confirm that the Full Paper is original and has not been published previously nor is currently under consideration elsewhere, that I have obtained all necessary permissions for the reproduction of content not owned by me (e.g., illustrations, photographs, charts, and other visual material, etc.) and that the Contribution contains no unlawful statements and does not infringe any rights of others.

·         I understand that the Full Paper I am submitting may appear on the IKS website.

SUBMISSION PROCEDURES

·         The online submission system must be used for International Conference submissions. This system will be available to IKS members through the IKS 2021 website, which will link through to the IKS members’ website for verification of membership. (If electronic submission is impossible, please contact the IKS 2021 Office by 19th April 2021). All submissions and presentations must be in English.

·         Every presenter or co-presenter must be an individual IKS member at the time of submission, at the time of acceptance and at the time of presenting.

·         To be included in the published program, individuals must be registered on the Submission System. This includes co-presenters, panelists, and speakers on symposia. Any exceptions must be requested in advance of the submission.

NOTE: The submission MUST include details of any equipment, instruments or facilities that you will require and cannot provide yourself. If any requirements are not included in the submission the conference organizers cannot guarantee to meet your needs and you may need to find alternative ways to present.

DEADLINES 
The deadline for submissions to the 25th IKS 2021 is Monday, 28th December 2020. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Applicants will be notified of the results of the review process for presentations at the end of February 2021.

Successful applicants must confirm participation as presenters, by registering as a delegate for the 25th IKS 2021 no later than 26th April 2021. Should successful applicants not comply with this requirement, their submission may be withdrawn from the program.
